Stop snoring today with our Laser Snoring Treatments

Brisbane Snoring proves it can be done with great results!

Laser snoring treatments performed in our Brisbane clinic using unique laser technology are changing the lives of snorers. We are one of Queensland’s leading snoring specialists and are proud of the new, cutting-edge technology we use. Many snoring treatments on offer today can be invasive, ineffective, or cause pain and discomfort. This inspired Brisbane Snoring to offer a long-lasting, effective alternative.

We were the first clinic in Queensland to offer anesthetic-free laser treatment for snoring, allowing people to continue with everyday life after treatment with no downtime.

This page provides detailed information on what NightLase is and how it works, and what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Frequently asked questions

What is the NightLase laser snoring treatment?

NightLase® laser snoring treatment is a non-invasive laser treatment for snoring which targets the cause of the problem. This laser treatment was developed in 2010 by Fotona Medical Laser in Europe, has a high success rate, and requires no surgery or anesthesia.

How does NightLase work?

NightLase snoring treatment harnesses one of the body’s natural regeneration processes called “neocollagenesis.” Neocollagenesis means “making new collagen.” Collagen, a protein, is an essential building block of all tissues in the human body. Our NightLase snoring laser treatment stimulates the production of new collagen in the throat and soft palate. This makes the throat firmer and larger. As a result, this makes the throat less prone to collapse.

As explained on our what causes snoring page, a common cause of snoring is laxity in the pharynx, so by causing a gentle tightening of the throat tissue, NightLase laser treatment addresses the root of the problem.

What happens before, during and after treatment?

Before treatment:

You’ll have an in-depth consultation with Dr Campey who will thoroughly assess the upper section of your throat, particularly the tonsils, uvula, and soft palate. Any signs of inflammation, swelling, or abnormalities that appear to be obstructing or reducing the size of the airways will be identified at this point.

Dr Campey will then be able to tailor a laser snoring procedure specifically for your needs to maximise the results.

Depending on your individual lifestyle and health factors, Dr Campey will recommend some lifestyle changes that may help reduce the symptoms of your snoring – but they won’t cure it. These at-home measures are designed to help increase your quality of sleep slightly between your initial consultation and your first treatment session. Some of these tips, such as losing weight if you are overweight, will also make snoring laser treatments more effective.

Dr Campey will recommend that you download the free Snore Lab app from iTunes, so you can track and monitor your snoring before and after your treatment/s.

During treatment:

During the treatment, you’ll lie on a comfortable treatment table while Dr Campey uses a hand-held laser device to gently heat the soft palate and throat. This will stimulate the production of new collagen in those areas.

During the treatment, you will feel only a mild heating sensation. Here is a video that shows how our procedure is carried out:

The treatment will take approximately 30 minutes.

You don’t need to prepare anything before the treatment, although if you have been keeping a sleeping diary or sleeping log, please bring this with you. This is useful, but certainly not essential.

After treatment:

After the treatment, you can simply continue on with your day, including going to work. There is absolutely no downtime involved with this walk-in, walk-out procedure.

How many sessions will I need?

On average, patients need three or four sessions to stop their snoring completely, depending on the severity of their snoring condition. However, several of our patients have achieved great results after only one session – but this is not typical.

Other useful information

How many NightLase sessions has Dr Campey performed?

Dr Campey is a highly experienced and qualified doctor and has performed over 400 NightLase procedures. Before bringing the revolutionary Nightlase treatment to Brisbane Snoring’s North Lakes Clinic, Dr Campey and his wife Karen Campey attended an in-depth training course in Ljubljana, Slovenia to learn more about the NightLase snoring treatment and its application from the manufacturers of the machine.

Dr Campey and Karen were so impressed with the features and abilities of the NightLase machine that Dr Campey personally experienced the treatment to tackle his own snoring problems. He found it to be pain-free with no side effects.

Are there any risks involved?

The treatment is extremely safe. As there is no surgery performed, there is no damage, scarring, or removal of any tissue. No anesthetic injections (or any other type of injections!) are involved and there is no downtime. Brisbane Snoring’s patients have never experienced any adverse side effects from this procedure.

Does the treatment hurt?

Many patients tell us they felt no pain at all. Some patients experience a mild sensation of discomfort, but it is very tolerable.

Are there any side effects?

Some patients feel a mild soreness of the throat after the treatment, which fades very quickly. This is the only side effect.
